1974 Greenwood Vintage Racer
Although variously referred to a 1974 or even 1975 Corvette, the basis for this beauty was a 1970 Corvette chassis VIN 194670S409414 with a "slightly modified" 1974 body.
John Greenwood was the promoter of the annual 1975 Sebring 12 Hour Race and entered this 1974 convertible with his usual stunning eye catching graphics and announcement.
At this past Wednesday night's local Corvette cruise, my buddy Fred showed me a photo of himself sitting in this beauty. When the owner found out Fred had a 1974 also, he told him to get in and he shot the photo with Freds camera. Fred was smiling like a Chesire Cat from ear to ear.
I love it. And some say that the C5 and C6 are big in the beam; well this is the JLO big butt wide body of the all time.
John Greenwoods tidy former office, currently occupied by Californian David Andrews.
Facts: 427 with Kinsler F.I. developing 700 HP and 630 ft. lbs. of torque at up to 7200 RPM; via an M22 on Greenwood Riley coil over front and rear suspension on Sterling wheels and Hoosier tires. (I read this on the placard.)
My wife commented how nicely the track was adorned with a multitude of wild flowers. This is after all, Lime Rock Park, a serene setting puncuated by 700 horses
Friday practice coming down the hill before the main straight.
Exiting the esses towards the "no name" back straight.
The first laps of practice everybody is bunched up in a group through the esses.
Leaving the staging area for the last race on Monday about 4 PM and the shadows are getting longer.
Selecting the appropriate viewing spot on this hillside near the esses, allows the large trees to provide shade almost all race day for fans that like to remain sedentary.
During the last race Monday, ole '75 got a little wide in big bend, turn 1, but recovered with only dust to tell the tale. Gawd, I'll bet David hates work as much as I do.
1974 Greenwood Corvette: At Sebring in March 1975 this 1974 Corvette, built by John Greenwood was entered in the 12 hour endurance race. It was Greenwood's familiar forte: a w-i-d-d-d-e body fuel injected big block. Today this same model vintage races. These video's are from Limerock Park, CT. 700 Horsepower Yeow.
